The trees flower in spring and bear ripe fruit the following winter. The fruit contain seeds with a high content of polysaccharides -- mainly galactoxyloglycans.The fruit/pod and dried tamarind powder are typically used for medicinal purpose. It further consists of d-tartaric acid, plant acids, pectin, sugars, vitamins, protein and minerals.
